| ............if what you have just read describes you or someone that you love, you may be suffering from depression. In fact, you are not alone. A majority of my patients that I see on a daily basis suffer from depression. Depression can stem from one or many different things including a chemical imbalance in the brain, genetics, or more importantly situational and spiritual issues. There are three neurotransmitters in the brain that control mood, serotonin, noepinephrine, and dopamine. If you are depressed you may have an imbalance in one or more of these neurotransmitters. Many medications are on the market to help with depression signs and symptoms including paxil, wellbutrin, lexapro. If you are depressed, you may benefit from one of these medications, check with your doctor. Antidepressant medications help with increasing the amount of neurotransmitters that may be decreased in your brain. The increase of brain neurotransmitters may help to elevate your mood and help reverse some of the symptoms that I have described earlier. Recent research suggests no evidence that St. John's Wort provides antidepressant effects. Persons with depression may benefit from the antioxidants effects found in xango. If you suspect depression, I encourage you to not overlook the situational and spiritual issues in your life. Both of these issues can have big effects on your happiness and well being. Are you connected with others? Activities or church may provide you good avenues to help get connected with others. It's not much fun to have to do life by yourself, I encourage you to get out and meet some other people! I personally believe that much of the emptiness and down feelings that we experience can be traced back to the kind of relationship we have with God. He is there waiting for you, no time is ever too late, it doesn't matter where you come from or what you have done, God is there waiting to have a personal relationship with you through his son Jesus Christ. Getting connected with God can do wonders to lift your spirit and depression! If you are tired of your job and the day to day rat race, if this has you depressed, I am here to tell you that there is a way out through not doing a job but having your personal home based business. What do you need to do, what steps do you need to take to be happy? Do you need to talk with your doctor? Would a trial of medications help? What are your goals in a relationship? In a job? Are you ready for a job change? Do you have the drive to do something different? Are there books, educational things to help you? What On Earth Am I Hear For? http://www.bhealthyusa.com/bHealthyUSAinspirational.html My prayer is that your depression would lift, there are good days ahead for you! Please let me know if I can help. Alan Murphey PA-C/RN-BSN Other depression resources |
